Lauren Stokes

Lauren Stokes is Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Northwestern University.

She received her PhD from the University of Chicago in 2016 for her dissertation ” ‘Fear of the Family’: Migration and Integration in West Germany, 1955-2000,” and is currently at work on a monograph that explores the link between migration, gender, and “difference” in postwar Germany.

Her work has previously been supported by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the Central European History Society, the Council for European Studies, and the Jacob K. Javits Fellowship Program. She also maintains an active interest in the history of sexuality, including directing a project to collect oral histories of LGBTQ alumni of the University of Chicago from 2011-2015.
